Who am I?

Christian, Learner, Teacher, Handgunner

My name is Scott Russell, I am a Christian, handgunner, sportsman, husband and father. I have had an interest in firearms since I was a teen ager and received a .22 semi-auto rifle for Christmas. I later also received a Winchester shotgun for another Christmas gift. My dad was not a hunter but he had a couple of friends who were, they took me bird hunting and taught me to wing shoot dove.

I purchased my first handgun in the late 1980s, primarily as a defense when working late nights in neighborhoods that were not the most welcoming. Many years later a friend introduced me to United States Practical Shooting Association and a local gun club. I was hooked. I have shot as a hobby participating in bowling pin shots, United States Practical Shooting Association, International Defensive Piston Association, and various club defensive pistol matches for about 20 years.

I taught elementary school near Lubbock, Texas for 6 years, then decided I was not structured enough to teach and went back to school at Texas Tech University to earn a Master of Science in Entomology. I later pursued additional graduate studies in Plant Pathology. I worked in the Texas A&M University Extension System and now work as a research scientist for a global leader in the crop protection industry.

My wife, Patricia and I have lived in Tifton, Georgia for 10 years.
